Farm Bill 2.0 Advances to Senate Floor

The Senate Agriculture Committee voted again on the Farm Bill Wednesday, September 16, passing it, 12-11. The bill originally failed on August 6, 2026, with the absences of Senators Mitch McConnell and Tommy Tuberville.

U.S. Senate Committee of Agriculture Chairman John Boozman commented this after the news was announced.

“While this is clearly welcome progress, we need more of our colleagues’ votes to reflect the urgency of supporting farmers, ranchers, forest landowners and rural communities.”

However, the job is far from finished.

Farm Bill 2.0 will now be presented to the entire Senate and will need 60 votes to clear a filibuster, requiring bipartisan support since only 53 seats are held by Republicans.

If passed in the Senate, lawmakers will then hold a conference committee to reconcile all differences with the House passed version.

The Senate faces the deadline of September 30th for the current bill extension.
