President Trump announces $8 Billion Harvest Fuel Relief while in Kansas

On Monday, October 20, 2026, President Trump announced the $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief Program for farmers to offset high diesel and fuel prices. The announcement took place during the presidents rally in Wichita, KS.
According to AAA Fuel Prices, the record high price of diesel in Kansas happened September 22, 2026, with the price of $6.25. The state average as of mid-October is $6.07. This time last year, the average price was $3.43.
The details of this program are expected to be announced in November 2026. John Newton, vice president of public policy and economic analysis for the American Farm Bureau talked about the potential impact this could have on farmers.
“How is this going to impact farmers? I think we must wait until we get into November, and USDA is able to roll out the formulas that we're going to use to determine program payments. Figure out how we're going to help specialty crop producers, how we're going to help fishermen, and the many other commodities that are likely in need of support, given the high diesel prices that they face,” Newton said.
Until November, there are limited details about how this will impact producers throughout the state of Kansas.
